13 Months in Antarctica

Our presenter this month is Viktor Barricklow, a Sylvania resident who recently served as a contractor at two research stations in Antarctica. He spent 9 long winter months at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, and 4 months at McMurdo Station, for a total of 13 months in some of the most extreme conditions on the planet.

Since leaving the Toledo area three years ago, Viktor has been to all seven continents and visited over 40 countries and numerous cities (including Chernobyl). In addition, he has worked a variety of jobs aside from his Antarctica position; such as a winemaker (Australia and South Africa), dive guide (Australia), bartender (Australia), and hostel worker (Australia). He has some interesting stories from these locations as well. Viktor has a number of fascinating videos on his YouTube channel called “Gone Venturing.”
